lava girl

Here’s “lava girl” hanging out with us on the Christmas trip … LAVA GIRL rocks!
We are spending most of our last days of 2007 getting ready with marketing for our biz. November and December really kill us financially … so it takes a bunch the rest of the 10 months. It’s ok … though … we haven’t missed much … except a bunch of debt. What else is new? I hope to make a ton of money this year … so that we can take another cool trip next December.
For years (while I was a pastor) … you couldn’t talk about having money. If you had more than others … you were just “blessed” , but you couldn’t do certain things … like buy a new car or a bunch of motorcycles … without incurring the judgmental eye of certain ones of the congregation. So, I’m a little repressed. I work hard for every dollar I get … I’m blessed because I know “how” to do that … not because I am God’s favorite. Lots of folks just think that God likes other people more than others and that’s the reason they have money. That’s incorrect. I can make money because I am willing and able to sacrifice the time it takes to do it. I am blessed … don’t get me wrong … I totally don’t deserve the breaks that I have gotten in life. But … when it comes to money … I do it the old fashioned way … I earn it. And I also want to say that I deserved every penny I made while I worked for the church too. I did a lot of stuff. A lot of stuff no one ever saw or cared to see. Churches ran a lot smoother when I was there … because I cared to see to things that others would like to have.
There were a lot of folks at the last church I pastored who thought I made too much money. Morons. I could make a list of the stuff I did … but who would care. Everyone should have the opportunity to make a lot of money if they want to … or need to.
This was a weird post.

gooden family vacation 2
Posted on December 27, 2007
Here’s a great shot of the family on our trip to Cross Bar Ranch. When you look at the number of folks we have … it was a pretty sizable trip. I know the flickr is messed up a bit … with duplicates … I’ll get that fixed. It also seems no one wants to look at the many shots of the goose. If you click on ‘more sizes’ you can get a bigger rendering of the photo … you can print them out if you want. I think I am going to send this one to get blown up and put on good paper.
Anyone know of a good place to email these to get photo prints with real paper? C/E and M/D get back today from their holiday jaunts. I’m continuing to gear up for the new year … doing a lot of marketing and web stuff.
I love my family, in case I haven’t said it lately.

gooden family christmas 07
Posted on December 26, 2007
We are back and survived a couple of days of dirt bike riding and fun in Oklahoma. We spent those days atop Cross Bar Ranch in Davis. The first day was pretty cold and windy … and cloudy. But we went anyway. The second was very nice. Still a bit windy but, the sun was out and the temp got up to about 55. Here’s an action shot of Darrah, white knuckling her bike … wide open. She’s a real darrahdevil.
Anyway, we’re back and I’m glad I’m going back to work today. The holidays get boring if there is nothing to do. After the Oklahoma trip everyone went their way to celebrate with the other sides of their families and we went home to get ready for work today. So, two days of nothing and I get pretty crazy.
Holidays can get very overrated, if you ask me. The let down after the fact is very crappy. It’s not that I am a grump or grinch or the such. I really can’t explain it. I look forward to it, but also get very blue and painful during it. It’s just me. I’m weird. If I didn’t have my family I would go nuttier.
There are more photos of the trip on the flickr.

While most people will be struggling with last minute shopping and crowds … we are headed out of town to play in the dirt. Our Gooden Family Christmas Vaction 07 takes us to beautiful Oklahoma. 100 miles from no where is where you will find us. Loading up the bikes this morning and headed to Cross Bar Ranch. I’m taking the camera … so I will have photos … on Christmas Eve. We are staying in a 5 bedroom lake house, minutes from Turner Falls. Hey … it’s not Vegas!! But it’s fun.

a shotgun and a cell phone
Posted on December 20, 2007
Ok … it’s been a harried time of year for us. We have a house for sale in PP and we always have uninvited guests for the winter and we always have to get rid of said “uninvited black and white” guests.
So, this year we got a live trap for the skunks … we have had it out several nights and the cats liked to get into it more than the skunks. Anyway … I’m at work and get a call from Lori that says … we have a skunk in the trap. What do we do now? Now, I am 30 minutes away and there are 3 women, 2 grandchildren, multiple cats, a loaded shotgun, and a cell phone. I tell Lori, you have two choices … leave it alone and I will come out later and dispose of the rascal or get the shot gun out and I will walk someone through it. I called a couple of friends in PP, but they were not available. Mer and Allison … had the gun out and were standing by … both these girls are always up for a new challenge … Mer & Allison have never fired a shotgun … ever.
I thought, I must be crazy. I insisted that they put the grandkids up somewhere … out of site and secured. Then step by step … I talk the girls through the operation of a fire arm … all the time praying that they are safe … because I constantly hear them giggling and snickering … then bam … and then an … eeeewwww. Then a … he’s still moving.
After 5 shots later … he’s still moving a little … but they drag him off … trap and all … as they describe the body parts that they have blown off. These chicks are brutal. And it really, really sounded like they liked it.
Thank God … no one got injured and we have another great story for the Gooden Family Christmas.
