Lt. Johnny Craver Memorial Ride
Posted on October 31, 2006
I guess most of you have noticed that I have an opinion on just about everything. Plus, I usually bring it up on this blog … but I usually stay away from the war. I don’t like politics and to me … it’s private. should we be there … should we not be there … I have my thoughts … but I keep them to myself because of men and women who risk their lives everyday because they believe in this country and when their commander tells them to go … they go. But today I want you all to stop and think about losing a loved one … how hard would that be?
Revolution Motorsports in Pilot Point decided to draw attention to the sacrifice that one young family man gave to his country … and that would include us. Lt. Johnny Craver, a 37 year old father, husband and son was killed in action this month. He is from the North Texas area and was scheduled to come home on November 27 to walk into the new home he bought for his wife and three kids that he ever got to sleep in. Lt. Craver was a Ranger out of Ft. Hood. The memorial ride is scheduled for Nov. 11, 2006 leaving from Revolution Motorsports in Pilot Point at 11 a.m. I threw in with them last night. Red Roof Ventures will be designing and printing the tshirt for this occasion. We are looking for sponsors. The ride only costs $5 and that goes for the B-B-Q lunch/dinner. So we need sponsors to help with the shirt. Main sponsors placements will cost $100 with smaller placements for $20. I will have the art ready for this probably by tomorrow.
So, this is a chance for you to get involved to help your community and your men and women fighting a war. The proceeds of the benefit will go to send care packages to troops in Johnny Cravers name. You can contact me for the sponsor tshirt back … but if you want to volunteer to help in the event you can contact Heather @ Revolution Motorsports. We don’t really know how many folks to count on … could be 30 or 300 … we are in uncharted waters here … but we will forge ahead. The first tshirt printing will be for 100 and we will have the screens set up the day of the ride if we need to print more. The Pilot Point fire department will be giving us an escort out of town and the McKinney Fire Department will also be sending several riders over for the day as well.
Let’s do something big and remember someone who gave their life.

ink, motorcycles, church, eh?
Posted on October 30, 2006
I wish there were more bike racing on TV. Last night it was Football and Bull Riding … ah, so - so. I think I should get tivo to catch stuff that I like that I can never get to … like Miami Ink, Inked, Overhauled, and all the custom bike build stuff. Let it be known now … that 2007 will be the year that I get inked. I’ve waited too long … if I wait much longer my skin will be all shriveled up and they would have to stretch it with bull dog clamps to draw a straight line.
We checked out Crossroads community yesterday. It was nice … I really liked the fact that church is multi-cultural … that was very cool. Had a lot of teens … so that means older people (like me) present. I still don’t know about jumping in … I thought I wanted to … but now, don’t know. It could still happen. Hey, I got put on to this site this morning … I really like it … it’s called Catalyst. Here is a link to an article or some bullet points on the Catablog … from Louie Giglio. Here’s a bullet point from that list for those of you too lazy to click there …
Let’s change the conversation from “the church let me down” to “Here’s the way that God has empowered and inspired me to pick up the work of the church and carry it forward.
Now being 50 makes me think about statements like this and first of all go … yeah, right on. But then I begin to count the cost of actually living this statement. Of course Louie does go on to mention the cost of making such a anti-religious statement. You do see the anti-religion in it … because this statement isn’t really aimed at the unregenerate … it is aimed at the modern church. It really was similar to the message we heard yesterday from the Pastor at Crossroads. Basically, if you don’t leave your junk in the trunk you will wear it for all to see. At least that’s the way it came into my pea brain. To comment on such a statement or question … "How has God inspired me or empowered me to carry the work of the church forward?" Is a tough one for me. Scripturally … I am the church whether I go to "church" or not. My choice daily is … do I want people to see Jesus in me today or do I want to be a schmuck. Honestly, isn’t that a better question. It’s not as grandiose. It’s not ground shaking. It’s not a "movement" statement. It’s personal. Yes, the disciples did go forward and turned the world upside down … but who were they really … let’s see … a guy with little faith — a doubter if you will, a coward — denying that he even knew Jesus, two quarreling brothers who want their own TV show, an ex IRS guy, a guy who couldn’t conduct a public speech if he wanted to — he just invited his brother to meet Jesus, a really compassionate, sensitive guy who saw things in a totally different way, of course there was the guy who wanted to capitalize on knowing his relationship with Jesus … he didn’t "hang" around too long. My point here is this … these guys were ordinary. They made choices everyday to be "the church" or not. Heck, they had organized church problems from the beginning … why do we think that they won’t continue. Here’s where I missed the boat … I take responsibility … I built a church around the needs of the people who came and not the people outside. Why, because the people inside paid the bills and the people outside … well, they may never come. That, to me, is where church goes awry. The long of it … the only way that I can be what I am called to be (the church, not a preacher) … is to decide every day … what my purpose is and pursue it.
I gotta go to work,

I thought I hit the brake …

This is not a Hollywood stunt pic … it’s real.
Last stop : Workers look at a derailed train carriage hanging on the end of a railway station in Kuala Lumpur. (AFP/Teh Eng Koon)
I promise you the driver of this train grew up and learned how to drive in Frisco, Texas. Plus I’ll bet that she was talking on her cell phone and her car is a Lexus SUV. Sorry, I know not all drivers in Frisco are rude and self contained … but it ruins it for the kinder gentler drivers when you come across a mall going, cell phone talking, SUV/mini van, driver who has no thought of where they are on the road. Neenie says, I have road rage. I don’t think so … I just have Frisco issues.
I thought this was a cool pic and just wondered what this person was thinking when they went a little too far past the station. And what are those guys thinking that are standing there looking at it. They probably are NOT saying … Holy, Moly. Yesterday we dove into getting the pool demo’ed. We rented a 60 pound jack hammer and needless to say … it kicked my butt. I have blisters on my hands and a spine readjustment to prove it. We succeeded in poking a hole in the bottom of the pool for rain drainage while we are filling it in … and we did clear about a 10 X 12 section of pool deck until I just wimped out and took the hammer back. I was getting cramps in my forearms that would make my fingers curl up and not release. No fun. But it’s progress.
Just found a long lost friend of mine yesterday … it was cool to find him and know that he still is my friend. Real friends are valuable and rare. Cherish them. So I am off to Frisco this morning to check out this church who has an opening for a worship leader … it’s a small church … no salary, or anything like that … we’ll see. Sorry to miss today at Genesis Metro … it’s pastor appreciation Day … I hope that they give all the pastors a raise to show them how they really appreciate them. Woo Hoo. Money isn’t everything … put it sure helps if you want a new flat screen. Eh?

really? the scoop on poop?
Posted on October 27, 2006

Yes folks … it’s elephant dung.
Ron Magill, communications director for the Miami Metro Zoo, holds elephant dung 12 October 2006 during a press preview for "The Scoop on Poop" traveling exhibition which is on a book by Canadian author and photographer Wayne Lynch about the way animals and humans use fecal matter.(AFP/File/Robert Sullivan)
Granted, by now, you know that I am drawn to the more obscure news stories of the day. Things you won’t see on the evening news but just as important. I bow to Elrod for bringing the link a few days ago about the cruise liner that did not have restroom facilities for three days while at sea … referring to the story as … the real poop deck. But personally I think I have topped it with this photo of a guy seriously discussing the advantages of elephant poop. Plus … there is a new book out as pointed out in the caption on the "uses for fecal matter". I really don’t think I could add any humor to this thought.
On to the day at hand … I hope each of you are planning some R&R for the weekend. Hopefully I will get to plant a little more grass seed to the pastures if the wind will die down a bit … boring to you I know .. but I just love to see things grow. The weather was great yesterday afternoon as Neenie and I took a spin on the Shadow and then ate dinner at Ernestos … the sun setting at our place is … as always breath taking … I commented to Neenie that I would have sold our place long ago if it had not been for the beautiful sunsets. It makes it all worth it. Probably will be cranking out art work today … that seems like the plan. So … don’t step any elephant poop today.

the best of …
Posted on October 26, 2006
I know that I should categorize my blogs … but there would be so many crazy categories … I think it best to leave them alone. There are some downloads available of this album … the best of Nimoy and Shatner. Note to self:: When you become successful there are some things that you should avoid doing just because you can. This has been an unusual week. We haven’t been very busy with printing … so we have been catching up with updating website links, doing art, filing, and other assorted things. Pretty boring … but needful. In just a few short days you will come back to the blog and I will complaining about how busy I am … it’s a cycle. Speaking of motorcycles … Biketoberfest concluded in Daytona a couple of days ago. I know that a lot of Christian Ministries hangout during this festival. I hope great things occurred. Some not so great things that occurred where … 4 people lost their lives during the week. Sad, but true. One lady lost her life while crossing the street … she stepped out in front of three bikes drag racing and one caught her. Sad.
We sent out one of our mass emails from our Constant Contact a couple of days ago. It was a follow up to the youth Conclave. So anyone making the trip to our blog from that link … welcome. Leave a comment and give me your blog … would love to read it.
I can hardly believe that October is just about over … we are in the home stretch for my favorite time of the year … Thanksgiving and Christmas. Looking forward to hanging with the fam for a few. One more thing before I go … there is a church in Frisco that has shown some interest in the possibility of having us lead worship for them. I am excited about that … we are to visit with them on Sunday.
